So, you've registered with Job Service and you might still be collecting unemployment compensation but job listings and offerings are far from thrilling. Now it's time to power up the computer and get your resume posted on a number of web sites. Submit a general resume to those sites that have a huge number of resumes in their date bases. Following that, submit a more detailed resume telling of your skills and experiences to industry oriented sites. Inasmuch as companies are doing word searches, do use specific names of machinery, equipment, software that you have used. Use words and terms such as supervisory, management, multi task oriented, dependable, team player, training, bilingual/Spanish, conflict resolution, etc. Use search engines to enter a general term related to your work experience, or related to a desired career field. Here are some familiar websites to look at on line or submit your resume:
When you have located companies in your chosen field limit yourself to about 10 of your favorites. If you don't do that, your search will be too general and you will be overwhelmed. When your list has been pared to workable size, post your resume on the sites or submit on line applications if you have found something in their job postings.
Email the companies and then call the departments looking for a job applicant with your experience. Follow-through is the only key to success. Remember, the internet is only one tool that is helpful in work search but not the only one to use. If you are very experienced; over 10 years, you are very unlikely to find a suitable job in the huge databases on websites. Search appropriate companies by name and email their human resources departments.
